ILAGAN BAPTIST CHURCH SERMON OUTLINES
The LORD Reigns
Text: Psalm 99:1-9 IBCSWS June 10, 2007
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
We honestly believe that through the help of nature, man’s conscience, and above all, through the Word of God, human beings cannot deny the existence and supremacy of God. Truly, the LORD exists and He reigns.
The creations of God fairly reveal to us how intelligent and powerful the LORD is. Silently and progressively, we are being taught by nature. It teaches us practical truth and orderliness which also reflect that God is Truth and there is no confusions in Him.
Every time we violate the rule of nature, we also suffer the consequences of our wrong doings. Through our conscience, such principle of truth always reminds and convicts us not to do contrary to the law. Undoubtedly, by observing nature and hearing the dictates of our conscience, God is leading us to learn more about Him.
The Word of God has a great role in helping us to know more about the Living God. Apparently, those who don’t believe the Bible don’t believe in God also; but those who truly desire the Word of God have also an intense desire to draw closer to the Lord.
How shameful it is for professing believers to overlook the superiority of God over their lives. Considering the presence of nature, man’s conscience, the Word of God, and the presence of the Holy Ghost in the believer’s life, how could a believer justify his indifference toward God’s pre-eminence? True believers should not forget that the LORD reigns.
In Psalm 99:1, it says, The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. (KJV) What an important and relevant reminder for us to always ponder. As we live in this present life, may God find us faithful in proclaiming to the whole world that the LORD reigns forever.
(I) He Is To Be Acknowledged
Psalm 99:1-2
-He is high above all people
In Psalm 99:2, it is written, The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. (KJV) God is the highest authority and we could show our acknowledgement of His supremacy in many ways.
Usually, a wicked and proud person will proclaim his great works and exalt himself, but will have no desire to lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ through his life; neither will he acknowledge Him as the source of his existence. We must be careful of our ways, lest we become a “wise-looking-fool”. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (KJV)
Letting the Holy Ghost control our lives is an excellent manifestation of acknowledging God’s authority. Obedience to His Word is an undeniable expression of our faith and love for Him. The way we humble ourselves before Him reveals our acknowledgement of who He is and who we are. God is all-powerful and He is above all the people.
(II) He Is To Be Praised
Psalm 99:3-4
-The LORD is worthy to be praised
It is quite sad, but true, that many people give praises to celebrities with questionable lifestyle, but they fail to give praises to the Living God who is Holy and Almighty. In Psalm 99:3-4, it is written, Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy. The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob. (KJV) We must keep in mind that God is a righteous Judge and those who are not giving God His due praises will surely give account before Him.
In every success we attain in life, it is only proper to give praises unto the Lord. His awesome working is undeniable through the lives of His people. In Psalm 113:1-3, it is written, Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD. Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised. (KJV) Truly, the LORD alone is worthy to be praised.
(III) He Is To Be Exalted
Psalm 99:5-9
-We must exalt the LORD continually
We must not forget to exalt the LORD continually and significantly. In Psalm 99:9, it is written, Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. (KJV) The LORD is worthy to be exalted. He should be worshipped by His people because He is holy and He is their God.
In every success we attain, we should not forget to exalt God because without Him, we are nothing. He is the source of our strength and wisdom. A man who exalts himself will never please God. On the other hand, a man who humbles himself to God and exalts His Holy Name will surely give delight to God.
Our God is a prayer-hearing and prayer-answering God and He is so good to us. Every time we rejoice together for the great success that God has given us to enjoy, we must not fail to exalt God’s Holy Name because without Him, we are nothing. We must keep in mind that we are just sinners forgiven and saved by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
In Psalm 99:6-9, it is written, Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them. He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them. Thou answeredst them, O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions. Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. (KJV)
As long as we live, may we honestly proclaim to the whole world that the LORD reigns. Keep on exalting the LORD! Worship Him in spirit and in truth and let the Lord Jesus Christ shine through your life.
