The Amazing Resurrection Of Christ

Text: I Corinthians 15:1-8    IBCSS   April 16, 2006

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

The amazing resurrection of Christ is not only a historic event in the history of mankind, but an astounding display of God’s power over death. When Christ arose from the grave, the threatening power of death was put down to humiliating defeat. As an excellent result, the Prince of Life valiantly conquered him that had the power of death, which is the devil. Truly, the death, burial and resurrection of Christ are not just shadows of things of the past, but a hope-giving news to a fallen man and a relevant message to all generations.

The Bible account of the resurrection of Christ is beyond doubt and those who truly believe are called blessed. In John 20:27-29, it is written, Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. (KJV) What a delightful message from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pondering these verses in our heart brings joy to our lives and triggers us to become more supportive to the spreading of the Gospel.

Thomas-like thoughts toward the Doctrine of the Resurrection of Christ leads skeptic people to dangerous position. It will offer them a ride and a sail to their own spiritual shipwreck. Like in the case of doubting Thomas, doubts toward the truth could be conquered by the Word of God. The earlier a man’s doubt disintegrates, the better he will understand the importance of the empty tomb.

The Bible warns us of the coming apostasy and it is a wise move on our part to take heed and guard ourselves and our children from false doctrines. Many false teachers teach that Christ did not actually resurrect from the dead, but that His body was merely stolen by His disciples (see Matthew 28:1-15). May the presence of false teachers stir our hearts to be more faithful in the Lord and to uphold sound doctrines so we may not be led by the enticing doctrines of ungodly teachers.

As we carefully study the resurrection of Christ, may we have the attentiveness God wants us to have so we may increase in knowledge and gain more wisdom in proclaiming the Gospel of Christ. Our deep commitment in telling the Word of Truth defines the depth of our love for our Lord and for His Word. A good knowledge concerning Christ’s amazing resurrection is a priceless education from our Living Savior.

                  (I) Prophesied In The Old Testament

   Matthew 8:1-10     Acts 2:25-31

   -Spoken and written by David

    Psalm 16:8-11

   -Declared by the Apostle Peter

     Acts 2:31

The Lord Jesus Christ is the main focus of the Scripture. In Luke 24:44-48, it is written, And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. (KJV) The Old Testament Books speak of the coming of the promised Messiah while the New Testament Books point us back to what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us at Calvary. The resurrection of Christ was a tremendous fulfillment of the Scripture.

(II) Spoken By The Lord Jesus Christ

     Matthew 12:40-41     John 2:18-22

     -The sign of Jonah

     -The misunderstood temple

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth and there is no falsehood in Him. What he told the people concerning His death on the cross was fulfilled according to the scriptures. The Lord is omniscient and His fulfilled words vindicated Him.

(III) The Brilliant Manifestation Of The Power Of God

      Acts 3:14-15    John 10:18     Roman 8:11

     -The power of God

     -The power of Christ

     -The power of the Spirit

The power of God is beyond the imagination of men. Through the ages, God’s power was undeniably manifested in the lives of His appointed servants. The resurrection of Christ was a brilliant manifestation of the power of the triune God.

                  (IV) Hope-giving Event

       I Corinthians 15:1-19

       -Concerning sins

In I Corinthians 15:17, it is written, And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. (KJV) How miserable we would be if Christ had not risen from the grave, but we praise God because the Bible emphatically teaches that Jesus arose from the grave. In verse 20, it says, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” This passage reminds us of the certainty of the forgiveness of sins to those who believe the Lord Jesus Christ.

      -Concerning justification

In Romans 4:24-25, it is written, But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. (KJV) What a blessing to know that Christ arose from the dead! Christ’s resurrection assures us of our justification.

     -Concerning faith

The Apostle Paul declared, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Paul likewise declared to the Corinthians the Gospel which he preached unto them and which also they have received. He further stressed how that Christ died for their sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. That’s the Good News! In I Corinthians 15:14, it is written, And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. (KJV) If Christ had remained in the grave, people would have remained hopeless, our faith would be in vain, and salvation would be impossible for us to have. But praise God because death had no power over the Prince of Life. We should therefore rejoice exceedingly because Christ arose from the grave and we have the assurance that our faith in Him is not vain. We should also be reminded that our Christian service is not in vain because we are serving the Risen Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    -Concerning resurrection

Obviously, the world cannot afford to give what the Word is offering to the lost. We praise God for the hope and the life Christ has given us through His resurrection. In I Corinthians 15:20-23, it is written, But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. (KJV) These verses tell us of the certainty of the resurrection of the dead believers. What a blessed hope we have in Christ! Keep on rejoicing and shining for the Lord for in due time, the Lord Jesus will come again to take us to our heavenly home, the prepared place for those who put their trust in Him.
