Bought For A Purpose
Text: I Corinthians 6:20 IBCSS June 10, 2007
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Buying something we love is exciting because we know that what we buy will be beneficial and give us pleasure. On the other hand, a man who is determined to buy an expensive product without any intention to use it is an unwise person. A wise buyer should be a wise user also. What a waste of money if we buy something without a purpose.
In spiritual realm, believers are bought with a price for excellent purpose. In I Corinthians 6:19-20, it is written, What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. (KJV) These verses from the Bible remind believers of their uniqueness not only because they are bought with a price, but also they become the temple of the Holy Ghost.
There is always a great possibility for Christians to be led by the ways of the old man the moment they forget what God has done for their lives. It seemed that the Corinthian believers during the time of the Apostle Paul were not fully aware of their new life in Christ.
Reading I Corinthians 6:1-11 will give us a glimpse of what kind of morality the Corinthians had and the background of the believers before they got saved. Studying the whole Chapter 6 will give us understanding on why many professing Christians are not living the way they ought to.
One reason why many believers today are not growing spiritually is because of spiritual indifference. They are unmindful of the things of God, but obviously inclined to worldliness. They tend to forget what God has done to them and are unaware of their redemption, sanctification and justification. No doubt, Paul used words like “Do ye not know”, “Know ye not” and “What? know ye not” because they lacked knowledge concerning their new life in Christ.
As we ponder in our hearts the soul-stirring phrase “bought with a price”, may we fully understand the true purpose of our lives so we may not shatter the real image of Christianity, but project it perfectly to the world for the glory of our Heavenly Father, and His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(I) Believers are Blood-bought
I Corinthians 6:20
1. By the precious blood of Christ
I Peter 1:18-19
Christians are:
-Washed……………..Revelation 1:5
True Christians are not only blood-bought, but also blood-washed by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. What a cleansing we have in Christ. Awareness of these words of truth will lead us to love the Lord in a notable way.
-Sanctified…………..I Thes. 5:23 Heb. 9:14 Jn. 17:17
The moment a person got saved by his faith in Christ, he is also sanctified for the Master’s use. What an honor and privilege to be sanctified for the glory of God.
-Justified…………….Romans 5:9
In Romans 5:9, it is written, Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (KJV) What a blessing for a sinner to be declared righteous before God. Truly, there is power in the blood of the Lamb.
May the imputed righteousness of God upon the believers be clearly seen till Jesus comes.
(II) Believers Are Purposely Bought To Glorify God
I Corinthians 6:20
A well-lived life for Christ gives glory to God
Apparently, the wickedness of man is becoming progressive and influential and the sphere of its influence is alarming and threatening. For such danger, true Christian must stand firm on their Biblical conviction and avoid agreeing with the world.
The Bible says in I Thessalonians 4:7, For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. (KJV) May this passage speak to us in special way so we may not follow the steps of the carnal people, but be pleasing to the Lord who bought us with a price and washed us by His precious blood.
It is always best to remember that the believers are purposely bought with a precious price to glorify God. In I Corinthians 6:20, it says, For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. (KJV)
