Christian Home Leadership
Text: Ephesians 5:23-24 IBCSS June 17, 2007
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Christian home leadership is a kind of leadership which is not well-studied and well-understood by many people. In fact, it is not well-defined to others. As a sad result, questionable leaderships are being implemented in many Christian homes today.
In a home where slacker husband, rebellious wife and messy children live, the wife usually takes the leadership because she thinks she can handle the ins and outs of their home because her husband has no backbone to stand and lead his family members. Apparently, such questionable leadership is being practiced by many homes today because they lack Bible knowledge regarding home-related principles.
Without the Word of God, no family could really know, fully understand and strictly apply the right leadership that God wants us to practice in our homes. Christian home leadership has a great significance and therefore should not be taken lightly but seriously. Through the help of the Word of Truth, we could realize the beauty and the truth being illustrated by a Christian home.
Understanding the leadership and love of Christ for the Church will help us to gain a wider and deeper understanding about Christian Home Leadership. We will surely admire the message of truth being conveyed through human marriage because of the special involvement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in it.
In Ephesians 5:23-24, it is written, For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. (KJV) These important verses, if fully understood, will surely lead believers to practice Biblical leadership in their homes as a manifestation of their genuine acknowledgement of our Lord’s leadership over His blessed Church.
(I) The Husband As A Leader
Ephesians 5:23-29
-Godly leader
The husband is the appropriate leader of his family. Behind his leadership is love and fear of God. His godly example plays a great role in leading his family in the path of truth.
(II) The Wife As A Help Meet
Genesis 2:18 I Peter 3:1-6
-Humble assistant
The wife has a special and Biblical role in her family. As a help meet of her husband, she must be humble and obedient so she may demonstrate the principles of truth. She is also a great help in building up their children.
(III) The Children As Supporters
Ephesians 6:1-3
-Obedient supporters
Our children have a vital role to take in our family affairs. They are great supporters in the physical strength and spiritual progress of our family. Children who are obedient to their parents and strictly follow God’s will for their lives will surely experience and enjoy the blessings of the Lord upon their lives.
In Ephesians 6:1-3, it is written, Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (KJV) We could not imagine how firm our home and how prosperous our children would be if they would only acknowledge and support the leadership of their parents.
Parents really need to lead and build up their children the Bible way so their family will enjoy love, peace and truth. In Ephesians 6:4, it is written, And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (KJV)
May we not forget to invest spiritual things in the lives of our children today so they may grow up in the fear of the Lord. Truly, they will not only become great supporters in the spreading of the Good News, but become great builders also of godly Christian Home in the future.
