Exclusive Meeting With The Lord In The Air

Text: I Thessalonians 4:16-18    IBCWPM    June 6, 2007

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

The dramatic modernization of the world is very impressive and undeniable. It astoundingly covers a wide scope in man’s sphere of influence. Its advancement is well-displayed in the areas of science, business world, global communication, transportation, education, health and sanitation, sports and recreations, housing, arts and music and many other areas within the world’s domain. The world’s primary work is indeed evolving.

Considering all the advancements that the world could be proud of, still, it is not in a position to solve all surfacing and alarming problems of this sin-dominated world. Poverty, peace and order, global warming, terrorism and the ultimate survival of mankind, are seemingly unachievable by this darkened world.

Man is trying to save the world, but obviously, it is impossible for him to achieve such desire. How could he save the world when he could not even save himself? Since the downfall of man, the world has become chaotic. The burning desire of man to save and to lift up himself through the works of his hand has become merely a part of his passing dream. Truly, man is wretched and hopeless.

In John 3:16-17, the Bible says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (KJV) What a hope-giving passages from the Bible for us to ponder in our hearts.

The world and its inhabitants remain troubled and hopeless, but those who put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ will surely be saved and be blessed. His promised coming gives excitement to every believer to serve the Lord heartily and shine for Him till He comes.

In John 14:1-3, it is written, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (KJV) Beyond doubt, The Lord Jesus Christ will come again.

(I)            The Most Awaited Meeting In The Air

I Thessalonians 4:16-17

-By Christians

  I Corinthians 1:4-9

The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is the most awaited event for Christians to experience. The unbelievers may take it as falsehood, but true believers rejoice in hope in the Lord because they know that Jesus is the Truth and there are no lies in Him.

We could not imagine how glorious it would be when we see Jesus, our Lord and Savior, descending from heaven to take us with Him to our resting place. In I Thessalonians 4:16-17, it is written, For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (KJV) What an exclusive meeting with the Lord in the air.

Many people are looking for hope, but couldn’t find it because they overlook the Lord Jesus Christ, the hope and Savior of the world. For such reason, true Christian must not be weary to tell others about the hope they have in Christ. Our time is so short and we cannot afford not to tell others about God’s plan of salvation.

(II)          Hope-giving Future Event

I Thessalonians 4:13-15, v18

-With comforting words

The promised coming of our Lord Jesus Christ has a hope-giving power especially in the lives of believers.  The Apostle Paul comforted the sorrowing Christians in Thessalonica by telling them the truth concerning their dead loved ones.

In I Thessalonians 4:13-15, it is written, But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. (KJV) These verses do not only teach us about the resurrection of the dead believers, but also give every Christian the assurance of the Lord’s coming.

As we live in this troubled world, we must always remember that we are just pilgrims here; this world is not our home and we are just passing through. We are here for a purpose, and therefore, we should not neglect our God-given task. As long as we live, it is our responsibility to spread the Gospel of Christ. We must not cease telling the lost that “Jesus Saves” and that He is coming again to take us with Him to Heaven so we could be with Him for eternity.

Don’t forget to comfort others with the blessed hope we have in Christ. In I Thessalonians 4:18, it is written, Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (KJV)

To the unbelievers, God is still giving you an opportunity to be saved. In II Peter 3:9, it is written, The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (KJV) God loves you. He wants you to repent from your sins and put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. By faith, receive Him into your heart and be saved today.
