In I John 1:9, it is written, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV) This passage from the Bible reveals God’s wonderful grace and mercy toward His blood-bought and blood-washed people. What a wonderful promise God has given us to be pondered in our hearts at all times.

As the Bible reveals God’s grace and mercy, it also clearly teaches the principle of sowing and reaping so we may learn how to avoid sowing to our flesh, lest we practice sin and abuse the loving-kindness of God. In Galatians 6:7-8, Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (KJV) An in-depth study of these verses will surely widen our understanding concerning God’s dealing with a sinful man.

The Bible says that God is not mocked. What a warning for us to take heed. It reminds us that God is merciful to repentant sinners, but it does not mean that He will tolerate sins. The Word reminds us that God who called us is holy and it is only proper for us to be holy in all manner of living.

As we grow spiritually, we will come to realize that God does not only forgive, but He also punishes sinners. Such principle of truth should not be taken lightly, lest we continue in sin and forget its sad consequences. In Numbers 32:23, it is written, But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. (KJV)

As we study more about how God forgives and chastises sinners, may we become more watchful and prayerful so we may not experience what David had experienced when he sinned; and the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel. We must keep in mind that many are forgiven and yet chastised.

How sad to see professing believers suffering the consequences of their spiritual blunders for a lifetime, but we believe that through such heart-breaking situation is also God’s way to tap our awareness so we may not take sin as a light thing but as a destructive one.

Every time a believer commits sin, he destroys the image of Christianity and gives the enemies of truth an opportunity to blaspheme the doctrines of God. Moreover, other people are also being affected by the sin committed by one person. In I Chronicles 21:13-14, it is written, And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man. So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. (KJV) What dreadful sight to see seventy thousand dead bodies because of the sin of one. Sin is a great tool of Satan to destroy people.

May we not forget what we have learned through the lives of our brethren in the past. In I Corinthians 10:11, it is written, Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (KJV) Fear God, take heed of His warnings, live in the center of His will and keep on shining for Christ till He comes.
