God-glorifying Change Of Focus

Text: Luke 2:8-20   IBCSWS   December 18, 2005

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

How we focus our lives on a certain goal defines what kind of life we desire to have in the future. Right focus promises clear success, but wrong focus misleads a person to a life full of uncertainties.

People who have their hearts well-focused on earthly things and the fruits of their labor tend to overlook the value of spiritual things; but people whose hearts are well-focused on heavenly things will surely gain the loving favor of God. Without sorrow, they will enjoy the blessings of the Lord continually.

In Matthew 6:19-21, it is written, Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV) These wisdom-filled words from the Lord help us to see things in the right perspective and weigh things on the scale of truth. May we see ourselves as God sees us, and if we realize that our hearts are being focused on things which hinder our walk with God, it’s high time to change focus so we may give God His due honor and glory.

                   (I) Secular To Spiritual

     Luke 2:8-20

Believer’s heart must be focused on:

     -Heavenly messages

Biblical messages are the kind of messages we need as we live in this busy and world-friendly environment.

     -God-pleasing priority in life

We should not let secular and none-essential activities hinder our God-glorifying activities.

     -Spreading the Good News

How we spread the Gospel of Christ reveals how much we love the Lord and how compassionate we are for lost souls.

-Giving glory and praises to God

The busy shepherds in the field who left their flock and came to visit the newly born Savior depicts a classic example of a God-glorifying change of focus. Their testimony was outstanding and inspiring. We really need believers of their kind today to teach others how to give due honor to the Lord Jesus Christ.

How shameful and inconsistent people are when they claim that Christmas Day is everyday, but drown themselves with worldly pleasures and seek their own during the Christmas Season. Be watchful! The devils don’t take vacation on holidays.

In Colossians 3:1-2, it is written, If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (KJV) These passages from the Bible surely convey a relevant message for us to take heed. We must keep in mind that the things we seek today reveal how serious our intention to please God. May our lives be pleasing to Him at all times.
