He Who Serves God Continually
Text: Daniel 6:16 IBCWPM April 15, 2009
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Serving God is the best activity we could do while we live in this present life. It is a great honour and privilege for us to serve our Creator. Serving Him in truth is an excellent way to show our acknowledgement of His pre-eminence and a personal expression of our deep love for Him. True servants of God serve Him continually without reservation.
God wants us to serve Him not just for a season, but throughout our lifetime. Seasonal service is not what God expects from His people. He wants us to serve Him willingly and faithfully, and He honours those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity and in truth. In John 12:26, it is written, If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (KJV) We must keep in mind that serving the Lord is rewarding.
In the secular world, especially in times of economic instability, having a steady job and regular income somehow keep a man financially secured. Every working man does not want to lose his good paying job. He wants to be retained in the company he is working for and he carefully do his best so he may please his boss. He must love his work and serve his master faithfully because he knows that his outstanding service will be appreciated. And beyond doubt, he will be rewarded accordingly.
Today, many people are so preoccupied with secular activities that they do not have time anymore to ponder the goodness of the Lord upon their lives. As a sad result, they miss their opportunity to serve God who created them and gave them the power to get wealth. Evidently, people are more money-oriented than spiritually inclined and that is the reason why they overlook the blessings of serving the True and Living God.
As we study the life of Daniel, we will surely realize the importance of having godly wisdom in our every day life. Daniel faithfully served different kings during their captivity and they found him admirable. But one thing that will astound us is that he never neglected his opportunity to excel for the glory of God because serving the Lord was his priority in life. May we realize the many blessings God has prepared for His faithful servants.
(I) Will Be Known By Others
Daniel 6:4
-Faithful servants of the Lord cannot be concealed
In this deceitful world, many people claim and profess that they are servants of God, but however impressive they may be in the way they talk and gain the hearts of their hearers, such way of measuring people will never give us guarantee that they are truly servants of the Lord. Sometimes, it may take years to identify His true and faithful servants.
Sooner or later, true servants of God will be manifested and be known by others. In Daniel 6:3-5, it is written, 3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. 4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. 5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. (KJV) Daniel was undeniably manifested as servant of God because of his faithful service in the Lord.
Our Christian service may not seem impressive or visible to others right now, but if our hearts are pure and we are faithfully serving the Lord, we must keep in mind that God is not unrighteous to forget the things we are doing for Him.
(II) Will Be Put To Test
Daniel 6:6-16
-Well-tested servants are more reliable
A servant who avoids challenges and tough testings in life will never become a well-seasoned servant. Daniel was a well-tested servant of God and he became the best choice of the kings in Babylon. During his fiery trials, his greatness was revealed and His God was magnified above all gods.
In Daniel 6:7-10, it is written, 7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. 8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. 9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree. 10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. (KJV) In times of heavy trials, coming and praying before God’s throne of grace should be the very first thing believers need to do. Well-seasoned servants of God are those who have truly established a strong prayer life.
Christian should count fiery trials as character builders and vehicles to bring us closer to God. Great test produces great servants.
(III) Will Be Protected By God
Daniel 6:17-27
-Courageous servants are always in God’s hand
True courage comes from God. Courageous servants of God are being controlled by the Holy Ghost. They are not intimidated to face death anytime and anywhere because the Lord is their strength and dying for the sake of truth brings honour to them.
In Daniel 6:19-22, it is written, 19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. 20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? 21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. 22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. (KJV)
What happened to Daniel was unbelievable. God protected him in a miraculously way because he believed his God without wavering. Serve God continually and He will preserve you in a miraculous way.
(IV) Will Be Blessed By God
Daniel 6:28
-God’s special blessings are for His faithful servants to enjoy
The blessings of the Lord come to His faithful servants in a unique and surprising way. Daniel prospered not only in secular area of his life, but above all, he prospered spiritually because he served God continually with a pure heart.
In Daniel 6:25-28, it is written, 25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you. 26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. 27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. 28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian. (KJV) The more we serve God, stand for what is right and please Him, the more He shows us His awesome working through our lives. Consequently, God’s Wonderful Name will be magnified and glorified in the midst of unbelieving generation.
Keep on serving the Lord Jesus Christ and God will take care of you.
