The Heart-breaking Results Of Samson’s Blunders

Text: Judges 16:19-24   IBCGH   September 17, 2006

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

Blunders surely plunder man’s well-loved possessions. Obviously, Samson was a victim of blunder. Its sounds comical, but he fell in love with his enemies’ spy named Delilah; he played a foolish game, then revealed his secrets to his friend-coated enemy, and became self-reliant. Consequently, he lost his hair, eyes, strength and the opportunity to lead the heathens to praise the True and Living God. What had happened to the life of Samson may also happen to our lives today if we neglect to consider God’s Word. May we realize the unpleasant results of Samson’s blunder so it may help us to avoid such destroyer.

(I)          The Absence Of God’s Help

Judges 16:19-20

-The presence of foolishness

-The presence of self-reliance

In Judges 16:19-20, it is written, And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. (KJV)

(II)         The Humiliating Defeat

Judges 16:21-22

-The consequence of pride

-The sad result of weak prayer life

In Judges 16:21-22, the Bible says, But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. (KJV)

(III)       The Heathen Praises The False God

Judges 16:23-25

-False gods are glorified

-Believers are defamed

In Judges 16:23-25, it is written, Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us. And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. (KJV)

We may appear physically strong and mentally healthy today, but we should also check how we live spiritually so we may guard ourselves from the devil’s manipulating tactics. Satan wants us to be tested and if we fail to brave his progressive assaults, he will be happy to see us defamed and defeated. Don’t be a victim of blunder! Be a victor and shine brightly for the glory of God.
