The Kind Of Love God Wants Us To Share
Text: John 15:12 IBCWPM January 28, 2009
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
The biblical principle of love is a very interesting subject to think about not only by the youth who are flourishing in heart, but by all people of all ages and walks of life. The importance of love to humankind is undeniably realized in a time when hatred and bitterness abound – that’s when love is needed most. A world without love is certainly a dangerous place to dwell in because the absence of love certainly brings insecurity to its inhabitants. Truly, this world is in need of true love.
God is the Author of love and true love comes from Him. Hatred is of the devil and he who follows him will be a victim of deceitful philosophy. The violent presence of hatred in this truth-rejecting world seems to be the manifestation of man’s selfish stride to survival. Hatred inclines to kill, but true love has the power to heal. To whom a person stands, lives and dies for reveal who the master of his heart is.
Undoubtedly, God wants us to walk in love and serve Him in truth. In John 14:15, the Lord said, If ye love me, keep my commandments. (KJV) The true object of love is God and he who loves Him will truly rejoice in truth. The Lord Jesus Christ will be his Master and the kind of love God wants him to give will be seen through his sanctified life.
Apostle John wrote much about love, and through his writings, we could learn a lot of things about Christian love. One important reminder he wrote in his epistle is the expected consistency of our well-spoken love to the unseen object of our love, which is our Heavenly Father, and the kind of love we should share to our brethren whom we see and work with day by day.
In I John 4:20-21, it is written, 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. These passages from the Bible are excellent reminders to guide us so we may be aware of the kind love God wants us to share to others.
(I) Christ-like Love
John 15:9-12
Believers should continue in Christ’s love. In Ephesians 5:1-2, it is written, 1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. (KJV) A consistent walk with the Lord surely brings forth consistent Christ-like love.
-Obedience-producing Love
John 14:15-24
· Delightful to God
· Mark of true child of God
-Sacrifice-producing Love
John 15:13
· With deep friendship
-Truth-abiding Love
I John 3:18-24
· Not only in word (I John 4:20)
· Not only in tongue
· In deed (labour of love)
· In truth
It is sadly true that many times, love is being presented and dramatized in a deceitful and confusing manner. True love is pure and should not be misinterpreted, or misappropriated. The Author of true love is not the author of confusion and that is simply the reason why believers must present love in truth.
People need the love of Christ, but who is capable to share the kind of love they are longing for? We truly believe that every spiritual Christian is in the position to share the love of Christ by spreading the Gospel to the lost. Unsaved people are looking for Christ-like love. Through believers’ love, marked with obedience, sacrifice and truth, the lost will find their way to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
May our loving Father see the pure love He wants us to share to others and may He find us faithful till Jesus comes.
