The Little Maid Who Became A Big Aide

Text: II Kings 5:1-3    IBCSWS    February 8, 2009

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

There are times when a person sees himself as insignificant, thinking that he is good-for-nothing rather than a potential blessing to others. Negative mind-set blurs one’s vision which often leads him to unstable future. Consequently, he finds himself in a “pity party” instead of a “victory party”. Before we find ourselves ensnared in such enslaving course of thought, it’s high time to pray to God for an increase of faith so we may not fear but see the bright prospect of future.

II Kings Chapter 5 offers us an inspiring account to think about especially in times of negativity. It tells us about the little maid who became a big aide to many people. The Bible describes her as “little maid”, a captive living in a strange land serving strange people who worship strange god. God protected her and used her in a wonderful way because she was not ashamed to talk about the True and Living God.

In contrast, many professing believers today avoid mentioning the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the midst of their unbelieving loved ones, friends and acquaintances because of fear of becoming the object of ridicule or criticism. As a sad result, they miss their opportunity to shine for Christ, and worst of all, people miss their opportunity to be saved. Be sure the blood of our loved ones will not be found in our hands before the Lord.

The little maid professed her faith in God and took advantage of the situation when she saw the need of her master who was a leper. She shone for the Lord and many were enlightened and led to believe the True and Living God.

Truly, no believer is insignificant because we strongly believe that every believer in Christ is a peculiar person. The reason why many Christians seem to be defeated is because they are not mindful of their God-given power and responsibility to share the Truth. Taking note on how God used the little maid in leading Naaman to acknowledge the God of Israel will surely inspire our lives to be more sensitive to the blessed will of God for our lives.

(I)  The Slave Who Gave Godly Influence To Royal People

       II Kings 5:1-5

       -With the help of God

·         Through her unquestionable counsel

·         Through her inspiring faith

With the help of God, we could influence all kinds of people in our society through our words, convictions and activities. Our beliefs and practices are so important to be proclaimed and demonstrated with carefulness and clarity so others may see the Living Saviour in us. As we continue giving the counsel of God to the needy, the lost will surely appreciate the benefit of hearing and applying the Word of God. And as they behold our unquestionable faith, many will be led to the Lord Jesus Christ.

(II)  The Captive Who Led Her Captor To Surrender

    II Kings 5:6-19

-Her captor surrendered his pride to the Prophet

-Her captor surrendered his false belief to God

In spiritual sense, the little maid who was a captive, became a liberator by using her spiritual knowledge and wisdom in helping people under the bondage of ignorance and false hope.

In Romans 8:35-37, it is written, 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (KJV) This part of the Bible was perfectly demonstrated through the life of the little maid. By the grace of God, simple believers could also experience such amazing truth and victory in their lives for the glory of God.

(III) The Little Maid Who Brought Much Blessings

II Kings 5:1-19  v14

-A blessing to the general’s wife

-A blessing to the general

-A blessing to the king

-A blessing to others

We are living in a world in need of faithful and true witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ and we cannot imagine the millions of people who will be saved if only true Christians will do their part in sharing the Good News. God uses simple believers who are willing to be a channel of blessings to others. Like the little maid, God could use us in an extraordinary way to fulfil His plan for others.

Wherever we are, whatever situation we have in life, may we always be aware of the purpose of our lives in this sin-darkened world. In Matthew 5:15-16, it is written, 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (KJV) Keep on shining and be a blessing to others.
