The Peace God Wants Us To Have

Text: John 14:27    IBCSS       September 2, 2007

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

Decade after decade, the world’s progress-related activities seem to be evolving in a momentous way, and the people who are deeply involved in such developments are excited and very proud to tell the world of their surprising accomplishments.

The world’s desire for survival and progress is obviously seen and is being worked out simultaneously. Thinking that such move could produce man’s well-desired peace to live by, people are deceitfully drawn away from God’s Word. It is certain that true peace comes only from God and not through the works of mankind.

In John 14:27, Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (KJV) Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the only One who can truly give peace to true peace-seeking people. We must keep in mind that the world cannot afford to give never-ending peace to its inhabitants.

How blessed are those who repented from their sins and by faith received the Lord Jesus Christ into their hearts. Such people are not only assured of eternal salvation, but are also enjoying peace with God and peace of God which the world could never give.

In Romans 5:1, it is written, Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (KJV) There is no other way a man could live and enjoy peace without faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is our peace. In Ephesians 2:14, it is written, For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; (KJV) We praise God for what Jesus did for us at Calvary so we may have peace with God.

In Christ, we have peace with God and peace of God to live by. It is written in Philippians 4:7, And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (KJV) What a comforting passage from the Bible to be claimed in times of trouble.

As we learn more from the Bible concerning essential things we should know and apply, may we prayerfully study our God-given lesson on how we could have the peace God wants us to enjoy.

(I)            Through Believing God And His Son

John 14:1-12

-Have faith in God the Father

-Have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

No matter how chaotic the world today is; true believers must stay faithful to God because through the Bible, the Lord tells us not to be troubled but to believe on Him. In John 14:1, Jesus said, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (KJV) What a promise to cling to when our hearts become worried.

The worry-triggered words of the early disciples were perceived by the Lord, so He comforted them with His blessed promises that they may not live in insecurity, but in faith. (See verses 5, 8 and 22) Unbelief toward the Word of God produces fears and insecurities, but faith in God and in His Son brings forth peace.

Keep on trusting the Lord and you will be amazed with what He will do through your life. In John 14:12, the Lord said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (KJV) Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and God will use you in a remarkable way for His honor and glory.

(II)          Through Praying

John 14:13-14

-In the name of Jesus

Anxiety has a weakening power and overcoming it through prayer is yet to be realized by many. Even professing Christians tend to panic when difficulties come as raging waves into their lives.

In times of need, believers should not forget to pray to God in Jesus’ name. In John 14:13-14, we have the assurance because Jesus said, And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (KJV) Praying in Jesus’ name will not only comfort us, but above all, our Heavenly Father will be glorified.

Don’t let anxiety overcome your life. Be prayerful, be strong in the Lord and enjoy His hope-giving Word.

(III)        Through Keeping The Lord’s Commandments

John 14:15-31

-As an expression of love   vs1-24

·         Love for the Lord

·         Love for His Word

Love is one’s vibrant emotion. True love is expressive and its course of action could not be hindered by anyone. In John 14:15, the Lord said, If ye love me, keep my commandments. (KJV) Love-triggered obedience toward God’s command is delightful to the Lord. It gives peace to the obedient people because their conscience will be guilt-free. As a good result, they will surely enjoy God’s loving favor.

He who consistently keeps the Lord’s commandment truly loves our Heavenly Father and His Word unquestionably. In John 14:23-24, it is written, Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. (KJV) Disobedience to the command of the Lord Jesus is also disobedience to the Almighty God. We must then express our genuine love to God by obeying His commands. Keep in mind that whosoever loves God in truth will surely be loved by Him in a special way.

As people cry and desire world-made peace, may we not be led by the false and deceitful offer of the world, but humbly come to the right Person where we could get true assurance of peace.

In Matthew 11:28-30, the Lord said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (KJV)
