Selflessness In Times Of Need
Text: Matthew 15:32-39 IBCWPM January 23, 2008
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Selflessness is an excellent sign of one’s maturity and emotional intelligence. Beyond doubt, the Lord is the author of self-sacrifice. Through His earthly life and ministry, He exemplified selflessness perfectly so people may realize its importance and eternal benefits.
Understanding the principles behind selflessness will guard us from the deceitfulness of covetousness, foolishness, vanity and pride. Being fully aware that giving is living; that helping others is not an act of a fool, neither in vain; and true altruism is never associated with pride, will lead us to appreciate the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Selfless people look more into the needs of others and seek not for their own personal interest. Selfishness blocks the miraculous cycle of God’s blessings being conveyed through His creation. Christians are meant to be channels of God’s blessings, and for such truth, believers must not be associated with selfishness, but rather, with Christ-like selflessness.
The Bible account of the “feeding of the four thousand” will help us to understand “the pleasures and blessings of genuine giving”. Keep in mind that the more we learn to give, the more we experience the miraculous working of God through our lives. Faith-motivated giving will usher us to limitless and pleasurable giving while love-triggered selflessness will lead us to heroic acts for the benefit of others and for the glory of God.
(I) The Ultimate Solution To Man’s Existing Problem
Matthew 15:32-33
-Compassion-triggered selflessness
· Christ-like selflessness
(II) Producing The Best Out Of What You Have
Matthew 15:34-39
-Give what you have to the Lord
-Let the Lord bless what you have
-Enjoy the amazing result of selflessness
-Let the Lord be glorified through your generosity
As we live serving the Lord and waiting for His glorious coming, may selflessness be seen through our daily walk so we may lead more souls to the Savior. Visibly, we are blest by God and it is only proper for us to share our blessings to others.
Selfishness in times of need intensifies the anguish of the needy, but Christ-like selflessness brightens the souls of the hopeless.
